Junior ICT Assistants - 16th November Session 1I had been expecting about six, but twelve young people turned up to the Introductory Session on the JICTA course at Forest Gate Youth Centre. Several came with their parents and there was a good deal of enthusiasm for the course. Most of the course members had been involved in the NYPO related summer school courses run during the Autumn holiday. The purpose of the course is to create a group of young people who will be able to help develop and run both the NYPO project and ICT activities in Newham's Youth Service. They will learn more about the Internet and other aspects of ICT and they will undertake the Youth Achievement and Duke of Edinburgh Awards. An important part of what they do will be their role as the core (Youth Achievement) Award Group for NYPO which means that they will be able to review the work of other young people. All members of the group were encouraged to use the new NYPO membership registration area. This is a new facility which enables NYPO members to keep fairly extensive and updateable profiles online. The participants at this first session were:
Bernadette It is possible that some other young people will join us before Christmas. One problem is that there are not enough computers that are working adequately. The IT suite at Forest Gate is poorly maintained and there are faults on most of the twelve machines which in some cases makes them unusable. I have contacted the people who are responsible for maintenance.
