Truce 2012 & Fulcrum Challenge

Couple of weeks back Gavin got a email from a couple of people that he knew about sessions running on peace building. After I read the mail, me and Dolice decided to go. Firstly I didn't know what it was, but the games that we played was fun, now that we are well into the sessions, I can see how important it is to our daily life. The program itself is called Truce 2012. Truce 2012 is a partnership project with three peace building charities: Peace Direct, Conflict and Change and Leap.
The programme take place in a 10 week OCN accredited conflict resolution and leadership course called "Quarrel Shop" which includes the two day weekend residential that me and dolice will be going to from the 16th of Nov to the 18th of Nov, in Buckinghamshire. The residential is free. The course enables participants to become a peer trainer, gain a nationally recognized open college network qualification and gain valuable skills in communication, facilitation and running workshops. Not only this, you will also learn how to keep away from trouble and save people in a conflict in the future.

I also thought that I should tell you that I have applied to the Fulcrum Challenge, which is a challenge for young people to raise £1,500 and go to Asia or Africa for two weeks to do voluntary work. I have been chosen to go to Kenya on the 29th of July to the 13th of August. Although this is linked to my college which is far far far away from Newham, the actual meeting place is St.Angela's Ursuline School,Forest Gate, therefore I'm sure that many colleges and possibly schools in Newham have the advantage of entering to this challenge, the best thing that you guys and gals of Newham could do is to go to your school/college and ask anyone who is linked to extra-curricular activities, I believe that the challenge itself is a big step, and you can gain a lot of skills and valuable experience. Also if there are any university applicants out there, this challenge will give you 70 UCAS points, and I think it's totally worth finding out more about!
