Greedy Times

By Girl with the Pink Bag On 6 October 20094 COMMENTS

greedy timesHi. Call me “Girl with the Pink Bag” because that’s my undercover name. Anyway I’m writing this because each month I want to tell you and just only you about my life. You may be wondering if it’s going to be an ordinary life. But open your eyes as you will begin to read the most extraordinary chapter of my existence as I reveal all.

Brothers. They can be annoying. No, very annoying. Do you ever find it annoying when you have a big brother who’s always picking on you, just because you’re the smallest? Well I certainly do. I just hate it when it happens to me. It’s like they see me as a harmless fly, and they think they can do anything to me. Well it’s not long before I snitch on them, on which they’ll stomp upstairs, like enormous elephants nearly breaking the house down.

If there was to be a vote on who is the most annoying brother, I would definitely choose my older brother. Yes, my brother, the one with the silly voice that has no life and always picks on me. To make him anonymous, I have given him the name Greedy. He is so irritating. Ooh, he’s coming now, best hide what I’m writing, because, believe me if he found out that Read the rest of this entry »

RnB vs Rock & Roll

By Nadine Lesfrois On 2 October 2009ADD COMMENTS
Different types of music, are portrayed differently to different types of people. Read about the ins and outs of rock and roll versus R’n'B and what the lyrics are really saying.
Recently there has been a huge uproar about different types of music, and how people feel about the lyrics. The fight for freedom of speech about your dislike for your taste in music has got even worse, as the music ladder grows, and so the music lyrics grow up with us.
In my opinions, music is a sort of art, where freedom of speech is portrayed through music lyrics and beats. People are finding it harder and harder to show their like and dislike for music without there being fights about it.
Our generation today takes music very seriously, as it is away to get your feelings across without any one being hurt. But are people getting hurt in the process?
The new R’n'B artist Lil Wayne has been climbing the ladder very fast, and made a big hit with his song Lollipop. The lyrics consist of Lil Wayne with girls in a club, singing about girls. These types of lyrics portray women in derogatory terms. This song is more for men to listen to, and not many young girls should be listening to this type of artist.
However R’n'B isn’t all that bad; the artist Ne-Yo, who has been around for a long time has respectable lyrics, for this generation and the last to listen to. He is a very popular artist, and he had to climb the ladder also. With his lyrics for many generations and both sexes, he has made it very big. His lyrics consist of singing about women in lovely respectable terms that satisfy all sexes. His song Mad, was a big hit, and millions of people tuned into YouTube to listen. Right now, both artist (Lil Wayne and Ne-Yo) are doing something.
Ne-Yo is performing in concerts and writing music, whereas Lil Wayne is in jail, arrested for having thousands worth of drugs and a gun in his car. He was also charged for rape. The life of new artist Lil Wayne just seems to get worse and worse.
On the other hand, Rock and Roll has been around for even longer, whether you knew that or not. Rock groups mainly consist of bands and not single artists, however they have powerful lyrics.
The artist Marilyn Manson, has had some big hits, such as Tainted Love. He did not write this song, he did a cover of the song which made him big. The official writer is unknown. The video has many girls in bikinis in the video, which is not very pleasing for the female eye; however the lyrics are not as degrading as the video may indicate. Unfortunately for Marilyn he did not make  a big hit, and years later with his come back song he still didn’t make it.
In addition to having unpopular artists, you have young, new, hard working boys, like the band You Me At Six. They started when they were 15, and set to making it big, they made an EP but still weren’t making the charts. When they all turned 17 they had one hell of a year, they were signed onto a record label, had an album out with their main singer, Josh Franceschi writing all of the songs. They had many sold out concerts and are making their second album, while touring in America. Now at the age of 19 the band has been up for Kerrang nominations, for best British newcomer and best single of the year.
The band has lyrics about break ups, life and how it feels to be in love. The lyrics are pleasing to both sexes, generally clean and are incredibly catchy. Their most well known songs are called Finders Keepers, Kiss and Tell, Save it for the Bedroom, Jealous Minds Think Alike and Gossip.
Music is a freedom of speech and without it, life would be pretty bleak, so you have your rude artist and you have your respectable artists, from all genres of music. The main point is that it should not matter, what race you are or how you feel about different types of music. Music is freedom of speech and is for everyone and your like and dislike should not involve violence or raciest comments.

How to stay fit during the holidays

By Rummana Begum On 27 September 2009ADD COMMENTS

Summer Fitness

Are you no longer in an everyday routine? Have you been slacking off and lazing around? Been overeating because of boredom? Well today is the day you change your ways and once again become that person who was healthy and outgoing.

Summer is all about having fun and relaxing but also staying in shape, so you can go back to work or school looking even more fabulous than when you left.

Firstly make sure you stick to a routine where you are having a balanced diet and plenty of exercise. To avoid feeling sluggish try to avoid ordering too many takeaways (ooh that’s greedy) and instead have home cooked family dinner whenever you can. Although the weather has been hotter and hotter don’t use that as an excuse to overeat on ice-cream (Even when heartbroken). Read the rest of this entry »

All about Nadine Lesfrois

By Manna Begum On 24 September 2009ADD COMMENTS

NadineWho is Nadine Lesforis???

Nadine is an extremely talented pianist. She has played the piano in the school assembly. Imagine how terrifying it must have been. I interviewed her about how she first learnt to play. She said that it was in school in music lesson when she was 12 years old. She realised she had a natural talent for it and so she kept at it and enjoyed it. She can also play the clarinet which she also performed in front of everyone when she was just only 10 years old. But underneath all this talent she is just an ordinary 13 year old girl in an ordinary school.

Funny stuffs

Nadine loves a bit of mischief, probably because she is the youngest of her 3 sisters. Once she started a food fight in her school. Everyone got involved chucking bits of mash and sausages! She didn’t want to get dirty so she hid under the table after doing the deed. Luckily Read the rest of this entry »

My last day of Ramadan never ended

By Zabir Ghanchi On 19 September 20094 COMMENTS

Mosque in the SunsetIts 4.05 in the morning, looking at the alarm clock from the corner of my eye, pressing the snooze button from time to time, unaware that today may be the last day of this blessed month of Ramadan. As usual, no alarm clock had been able to wake me up on time but the non-stop alarm of my mum dragged me out of bed and got me ready for Sehri (The morning meal before fast). After finishing the meal, I rushed to my local mosque for the sunrise prayer.

It’s 6.25 in the morning. I am the only one awake, with everyone having gone back to sleep, I finish reciting the Holy Quran. Sitting down near the window observing the time between dawn and sunrise, a thought is triggered in my mind about my Ramadan last year. I rewind my time to the point of my first day at college. I remember, in the fasting condition, I was passing through the library. It was a short while before I noticed the poster of Mahatma Gandhi on the wall ahead of me. That was the time when I was more proud to be an Indian than anyone and anything, so I went close to the poster, gazing at it for a while and reading a quote below it from Gandhi, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

Unaware of the value of the quote and ignorant of the value of Islam, I smiled at it and walked away. Today, I realised Read the rest of this entry »

How clean do you think Newham is?

By Lubna Begum On 17 September 20092 COMMENTS

Littering

An unclean environment is a problem. It affects the people and it also affects animals. That’s why today I’m going to tell you what people think of how clean Newham is.

Most environments that are unclean are usually caused by littering. Littering is when rubbish is thrown on to the streets and causes the area to look horribly unhygienic. Litter may start off by little but it can result in a big situation and put people’s lives at risk. This includes dumping, where people leave large furnitures like mattresses on the street! Also so much rubbish is put in bins when all the good leftovers can be recycled to make other things which help reduce litter and save money. The rubbish is dumped in the landfill, which eventually will not have any space for other rubbish.

In my opinion, I think Newham is great in some areas but, I find rubbish around and not only that, the streets seem very dirty. Read the rest of this entry »
